The Melkite Greek Catholic Patriarchate on Friday announced in a statement that a special Synod will convene between 19 and 23 June, 2017, at the Patriarchal summer seat in Ein Traz, in order to elect a new church Patriarch.

The announcement came after Gregorius III Lahham submitted his resignation to the Holy See.

As such, all Patriarchate-related special activities, ceremonies and conventions will be shelved at the current phase, statement said.
